About Marion

Hello and welcome! I believe that our perception of art, like our experience of landscape, is deeply personal. We each bring to it our own unique story.

That’s why I love working abstractly – I want to leave space for the viewer’s interpretation and connection at many levels. A work of art, like a place or a poem, should offer something fresh and new to discover even when familiar to us. It can be both a haven and a springboard for the imagination, perhaps show us a new way to see the world and express our connectedness with all that is.

I draw inspiration from coast and field, woodland and moorland – landscapes of shifting light, colour, texture and sound that evoke, or even demand, a deep emotional response.

My process is intuitive, experimental and driven by playful curiosity. I work with a variety of media, including acrylic, gouache, watercolour, ink and pencil. One of my favourite ways to unwind is making my own collage papers. Another is relaxing with a cup of dandelion coffee, dark chocolate and a good book!

Drop by my website shop to see some of my latest mixed media pieces, and visit my member artist profile at Artizan Gallery Art Hub for more available works for sale online.

Also, for artists, I offer a bespoke, personal artist statement writing and editing service. Scroll down to find out more.

Artist Statement Writing and Editing Service

If you’re a practising artist, there will come a time when you need to write an artist statement. Whether you’re submitting to an open exhibition, planning a solo or group show or approaching galleries, your artist statement is a crucial part of the process. It could even make a difference to how your work is perceived and received. So you want it to be authentic, engaging and impactful – something that piques curiosity, creates a unique and compelling context for your art and invites the viewer to explore further.

If you find the idea of writing an artist statement a bit daunting, that’s where I can help. As well as being an artist, I’m an experienced professional copywriter, editor and proofreader with over 15 years’ experience. And because I’m an artist, I understand how important it is for you to get this right, so that your words convey exactly what you want the viewer to know and leave room for them to discover more for themselves.

Already written your artist statement? Maybe you’d just like to have another pair of eyes to look over it carefully, pick up any spelling or grammatical errors you may have missed and make suggestions for polishing it further if needed. As I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), you can rest assured that I will provide the highest level of service.

I offer two packages. Here’s how it works.

Writing an artist statement

·         We arrange a time to speak, either via telephone or WhatsApp (up to 45 minutes). We can talk about your ideas, your process and your work and anything else that may be relevant to your artist statement. Or if you prefer, you can send me the information in an email, and I will work from that.

·         I compose your artist statement from the information provided and send it to you via email.

·         Price: £70 for an artist statement up to 200 words. If the required word count is over 200 words, I can provide a quote.

Editing an artist statement

·         You send me your artist statement in a Word document or PDF.

·         I make corrections and suggestions using Word’s Track Changes feature.

·         I return two versions of the document to you, one showing my suggestions and the changes I’ve made, and one ‘clean’ version with the changes accepted.

·         Price: £25 for an artist statement up to 200 words. If the required word count is over 200 words, I can provide a quote.

If you’d like to book a slot or find out more, please contact me via marion@marionadamsart.co.uk or fill out the form on my Contact page.

You can read my current artist statement here. When sending this to accompany submissions to exhibitions, I may add to or adapt it depending on the requirements of the organisers and the ever-evolving and exploratory nature of my art practice.
